Ahem, it has come to my attention that all sorts of strange names are popping up everywhere. Why am I creating this topic? Well, in the warriors books, cats didn't really have a dictionary or thesaurus to give them fancy words like 'Constellation', or 'Paint', or even the names of flowers [althought, some like daisy and poppy wouild be found in the territories, and are acceptable in my books]
THE GUIDE:
PREFIX'S [The start part ]: When naming your warrior cat, take into account the looks first. Lets pretend I have a black and white spotted she-cat with lovely amber eyes. At birth, however, the amber would not be seen, as all kits eyes are blue, so 'Amber' would be ruled out. 'Black' or 'White' would work, as would 'Snow' and 'Night'. Anything that describes the stature too would work, like 'Tall' or 'Small', or 'Tiny'.
Now lets pretend I have a brown kitten with a huge bushy tail and tufts on his ears. What does he remind you of? Well, to me, he reminds me of a good old British Red Squirrel [see here]. Well, a good name for this little kit would be 'Squirrel'kit. 'Fire'kit, 'Bark'kit and even 'Mud'kit would work due to his fur. But, once again, he is a kit and you cannot see his eyes! 'Blue'kit wouoldn't work, because as he ages his eyes might be green or yellow!
Now, a dark grey kit. He is rather larger than his litter mates, and surprisingly muscly for a kit. 'Stone'kit would be fine, but later in life he cannot be 'Stonemoon', as it is too much like the moonstone!!! 'Rock' would be fine too, as would 'Wolf', as they are spoken of by elders, but never seen before by anyone as i believe Warriors is set in England, Wolves are extinct. If it's America, call it 'Wolf' all you please, as wolves are abundant in some places of America.
Lastly, here is a kittypet. Her original name was Tigger, but she looks absolutely nothing like a tiger! She is a plae ginger she-cat, with darker ginger splotches all over her body. Those darker ginger spots look a lot like poppies, so why not 'Poppy'? Or maybe even 'Rose'? They would work perfectly, as would 'Fire'. 'Sun' however, would not be used, as the sun AND moon are sacred to warriors.
Now lets take the fiction cat called Badgerheart. His prefix 'Badger' is there because he is a solid black with a rather thick white stripe going down his back. 'Heart', his suffix, came from his brave heart and caring personality. This is a fine name, and to be honest, I quite love it <3
But hold on, his son, also a warrior, is called Bravebadger. Brave? BRAVE?! How in Starclan would a queen know her kit was to grow up to be brave? Okay, the suffix is because he is a spitting image of his father, but no mother can tell if her kit is going to be 'Brave', or 'Vivid', or 'Shy'. It's utter nonsense.
SUFFIX'S [the end bit]: When giving a warrior or medicine cat their new name, take into account that some words are BANNED from this area. The most used of all words are 'tail', 'fur' and 'heart'. These are fine, but rather bland and boring!
Let us take, for instance, my lovely leader, Crowstar. His original warrior anem was 'Crowdusk'. His prefix was 'Crow' because he was black and grey, looking a lot like a crow. 'Dusk' was for his grey's as well. Although, he could have been named anything; Crowfeather, Crow-wing, Crowflight, Crowfrost etc etc.
Now let us take into account the deputy of Shadowclan, Silentstripe. He received his prefix, 'Silent', after a battle, and he found it painful to talk, and remained silent most of the while. His suffix, 'stripe' was given to him [in my opnion] because he is a black cat striped with white stripes all over his body! Therefore, I love Silentstripes name. End of.
Now for another cat. Her name is Whitepoppy. She is a white she-cat. Nothing special about her, just pure white. No red anywhere on her! So why choose 'poppy' when this she-cat has no red on her at all? Why not Whitefrost, or Whitesnow, or Whitefeather? There are a ton of choices you can make, and to be honest, I think of the cat's description BEFORE naming.
