A steady wind blew softly on Leafpaw's fur. She had been out hunting for quite a while, but had yet to catch anything. Leafpaw heard a faint rustling noise in some nearby bushes, and scented the air for a moment. Hmmm.... Mouse. She thought while slowly walking closer to the scent. Leafpaw slowly continued to walk closer, but cringed as she stepped on a twig. The mouse scurried away, and Leafpaw sighed, while angrily flicking her tail. Why can't I catch anything today?! Leafpaw thought. She sat down on the ground and looked over in the direction that the mouse had run off in, but suddenly, a feeling of sickness came over Leafpaw, and she coughed a few times. What was that about? She thought. Leafpaw shrugged, but she felt like something was wrong......

A sound of a rather bulky animal landing on a small creature echoed around the burnt sycamore. You could hear the small animal's bones breaking under the force of the attack. It's life was soon ended.
Moonpaw picked up his catch, a nice mouse. It had run practically into his paws, but it was still fresh-kill. He scraped some earth over the mouse to come and get it later.
Something must have frightened it, the gray apprentice thought. Trying to be light on his paws, he crept slowly toward where the mouse had come from. But, it was only Leafpaw.
"Miss the mouse?" he asked, a smirk on his face. Moonpaw was planning on rubbing it in a bit, but he realized that Leafpaw didn't look as 'happy go lucky' as usual....
"Are you alright?" he mewed softly and cautiously. Not too sure of what to say or do. He wasn't exactly the best cat for these kind of things...

"Yes, I missed the mouse." Leafpaw said angrily to Moonpaw. However, she soon forgot her anger when she started coughing again. This time it was worse. "Well, to tell the truth, I don't feel so great." Leafpaw's nose was running now, and she coughed some more. She dropped her head and looked at the ground, feeling slightly dizzy.
"Moonpaw, get some help." Leafpaw mewed weakly. She couldn't seem to pull herself together.

Moonpaw's legs were tremebling. He could just barely remember those symptums from one time in his life. The Great Sickness. And Leafpaw reaked with it.
Horrible memories flashed like lightning through his mind. Laying in Moonfang's den, seeing the limp bodies of Darkkit and Nightkit. And even seeing his mother one last time before the elders buried her. He wasn't going to let that happen to Leafpaw, she was too young. So much ahead of her.
"You're coming with me. I'll help you back to camp, Moonfang works better in her own den than out here," he mewed urgently. Moonpaw rushed to her side.
"I promise that you're going to be alright" he whispered in her ear, his voice quivering a bit.
{{OOC: Moonpaw's got bad memories.}}

Leafpaw hung her head down low. "Oh... Ok..." She muttered weakly. A feeling of sickness swept across her again, and she reacted with a coughing fit. "Moonpaw.... I might get you sick.... I could probably.... get back on my own...." She whispered to him. He seems to know something that I don't about this sickness.... She thought while looking at Moonpaw. Leafpaw started to walk, but her legs were trembling, and she fell down.
Leafpaw tried to stand back up again, only to fall down once more. "I don't know.... if.... I can.... make it...." She said while trying to stand up again.

Moonpaw rushed to her side. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine," he murmured. "But, you've got to get back to camp. I'll be by your side every step of the way."
His blue eyes were clouded with worry. Is there going to be an outbreak? he thought painfully. But, he quickly pushed the thought aside. What mattered now was getting Leafpaw to Moonfang. He didn't want to leave her alone out there... What if a fox were to come? She would certainly be no match for a fox that was hungry enough....

"Ok...." Leafpaw whispered. She stood up, and started walking as fast as she could. However, a thought that she could not push back in her head was starting to bug her. She sighed and looked up at Moonpaw, saying, "Is there something that you know about this sickness that I don't?" She looked back down at her feet. One foot in front of the other.... She thought to herself. Her legs were still shaking, and she really didn't want to trip again.
(OOC: Heh. Yeah, I guess so.)

Moonpaw matched her pace as best he could, keeping close so that Leafpaw could lean on him if she needed to. "Is there something that you know about this sickness that I don't?" His gray pelt bristled at her sudden question. Should I tell her? he wondered. The apprentice thought this over a bit before responding, choosing his wording carefully.
"Yes," he finally mewed. "When I was a young kit, a sickness swept through ShadowClan. It was from the Carrion Place. And it killed many cats." his voice was heavy with painful memories flashing once more through his mind. "From what I remember, it was similar to what you're going through now." Moonpaw choked out the words.
He felt regret pulsing through him. Should he have told her that? She would of found out one way or another....

Leafpaw's breathing was becoming heavier. "It k-killed m-many cats?" She mewed nervously. "Oh....." Leafpaw closed her eyes, trying to remember how all of this happened. I was feeling fine not long ago.... Worry and pain filled up Leafpaw's eyes. "I can't..... I can't..... Keep walking....." She stared down at the grass, waving slightly in the breeze. Leafpaw sat down, and tears slipped from her eyes.
No! I have to be strong! She thought.
Leafpaw stood up and kept walking, trying her best not to fall. "Moonpaw thank you for all of your help...." She said quietly. Leafpaw looked down at the grass again, and kept going.

Moonpaw licked the top of her head reassuringly.
There was an uncomfortable silence that had fallen. Usually, he would love such a thing, but now it felt like claw had dug into his heart.
"You can lean on me, if you need to," he mewed awkwardly. Still not sure how to deal with this situation. The one thing he still needed to learn in his apprenticeship was dealing with other cats. Helping a Clanmate during something like this. Hunting and fighting are simple compared to these situations. Just the thought of Leafpaw lying helplessly in Moonfang's den, and not being able to help her, it was like the sharpest claws tearing at him.

Leafpaw leaned slightly on Moonpaw, as she kept on walking. They were almost back to camp, and she breathed a sigh of relief. She imagined herself in Moonfang's den, recovering from this sickness. But I might not recover... This thought filled her with dread, and a few more tears fell from her eyes. I haven't even been an apprentice for that long.... She thought while shutting her eyes tight.

"Not long now," Moonpaw mewed, stating the obvious.
The apprentice padded on with Leafpaw. But, the fear of her suffering like the others had during the great sickness still hung heavy in his mind. Surely Moonfang would know exactly what to do and Leafpaw would be back to training in no time! Right?..... His pelt bristled once more. Those horrible memories... He couldn't bear to think that another cat would have to go through that again.
StarClan, help her.

Yes, almost there. Leafpaw thought. She tried to distract herself from her fear, but it was doing no good. She was trembling, and she felt as if she was going to collapse any second. Well, at least we are back now. Leafpaw still couldn't pull herself together, and she fell down, twisting her paw. She mewed quietly, and looked up, hoping that everything would turn out alright.

"Are you alright?" Moonpaw asked a little frantic. He stood by her side, trying to see if she hurt anything. Her paw looked.... odd. Was it always like that? Or did it happen when she fell...?
At least we're back at camp, he thought hopefully.
