A soft, chilling wind blew, carrying with it the leaves of the trees. Leaf-Fall was certainly upon the forest. Out of the trees a cat emerged, a cat named Dustfoot. The expression in his icy blue eyes was practically unreadable, but he was deep in thought. Leaf-Bare...... It will soon be here...... Dustfoot leaped up onto one of the Sunningrocks and stretched out his muscles. He gazed into the river, watching the water gently move along. The river always mystified Dustfoot, and sometimes when he was an apprentice, he would gaze into the river for several long minutes.
However, the calming scenery could not entirely push Dustfoot's worries out of his mind. He dreaded the season of Leaf-Bare, because with the cold, Leaf-Bare brought disease and famine into the forest, and Dustfoot had lost so many of his friends and family to sickness. Each time Leaf-Bare came, he thought about all of the cats he lost that were so close to him. Dustfoot let out a long sigh, and sat down, neatly curling his tail around his paws. A flicker of worry emerged in Dustfoot's eyes as he thought about the season of Leaf-Bare which would soon be here, seemingly gripping the forest with an icy claw.

Icefur shivered as an icy breeze rolled through the forest, clamped tightly in her mouth, was a squirrel, it's warm, fresh scent, drifted up her nose. She weaved through the trees, when another chilled gust of wind, blew Dustfoot's scent across her trail. She veered to the side, and followed the smell, which took her to Sunningrocks.
Icefur looked out, over the shinning rocks, and saw the outline of Dustfoot's figure, against the blue gray sky. She slowly padded toward him, the faint sound of her soft paws against the rock, could barely be heard, and when she was next to him, she laid her squirrel by his side, and then purred a greeting, "Hello, Dustfoot. Are you hungry?" Icefur sat next to him, and curled her tail neatly around her legs.

Dustfoot had hardly noticed Icefur sit down next to him, as he was too deep in thought. He closed his eyes, and let out a quiet sigh, which was barely audible. "Hello Icefur." He replied. "No thanks, I'm not too hungry right now." Dustfoot's icy blue eyes drifted to the water in the river and he he took a deep breath. He gazed into the river for a couple moments, the tranquil sight calming him. I should probably go hunting soon. He thought. Dustfoot shivered slightly as a cold wind blew, and the small flicker of worry still rested in his eyes. He continued to think about all of the family and friends he had lost to sickness, and he sat motionless for several moments. Dustfoot then remembered that Icefur was there, and he said, "Sorry. I've had a lot on my mind lately." He let out another quiet sigh under his breath.

Icefur tilted her head, and looked over Dustfoot, she had never seen him so....strange. She nudged the squirrel toward him, "Please, eat this. I'm not hungry, and I've already taken two mice back to the Clan. You need to have something, Dustfoot." Her eyes softened, and she purred, and then leaned to lick Dustfoot tenderly behind the ear.
A soft wind, blew across the river, and the water rippled, Icefur stared, at the beautiful, clear, body of water, and watched the waves lap at the reeds on either side. She sighed, and looked at her paws, "Well, if you don't need me here, I suppose I should go see if anything needs to be done around camp. And Dustfoot, please, try and eat. I'll feel much, better, and so will you." Icefur brushed her tail against his flank, and stood, to head back to the camp.

Dustfoot looked down at the squirrel. He didn't move, but he glanced at it for a moment. "Ok. I will eat." He muttered as he bent down to start eating the squirrel. For a few moments, his worries left his mind. When he was finished with the squirrel, he looked up at Icefur. The flicker of worry in Dustfoot's eyes was gone, and he stood up. He gave on last glance at the river, and leaped down off of the rock. Dustfoot stretched out his muscles, his fur rippling in the chilling breeze. He trotted over to Icefur and said, "I'll go back to camp with you." Then I will head out to hunt. He added silently in his head.

Icefur purred softly, and looked over him, "You seem troubled, Dustfoot. Is something wrong?" Her tail waved from side to side, she could usually tell when something was wrong with him, since she had liked him since she was an apprentice. And now, that he was deputy, she felt even more respect for him, and she was beginning to feel for him in a different way, like a deputy feels for their leader. A chilling breeze swept over the river, and carried a cool mist toward her, she shivered slightly, "Let's head back to camp, we can talk better there. Besides, I should check and see what Nightpaw is up to." A smile formed on the edges of her lips, and she rubbed her side against Dustfoot's as she took a few steps past him, and waited for him to follow.

The expression in Dustfoot's eyes revealed that he was a bit reluctant to reveal all of his worries. I should probably tell her.... He thought as he gazed up at the sky for a quick moment before padding up next to Icefur. He smiled ever so faintly as he continued to walk, and Dustfoot let out a barely audible sigh before he began to speak. "Well...... I quite honestly loathe the season of Leaf-Bare." He thought for a moment before continuing on. "Actually, I don't loathe the season. Just the disease. In the past, I have lost so many of my friends and family to disease...." His voice trailed off to hardly more than a whisper as he continued to walk. [/blockquote]

Icefur's eyes softened, and she purred, as she rubbed her side against Dustfoot's. She softly murmured, "I'm so sorry... I don't know what to say......" She looked at her paws, and thought for a moment. It must be hard for Dustfoot to be the Clan deputy, and feel like every cat was part of his family, but yet have them risk their lives in every fight....
Icefur sighed, and tenderly flicked her tail against Dustfoot's flank, "Come one, let's go back to camp. There are probably plenty of things that need to be taken care of." She smiled slightly, hoping that she could lighten Dustfoot's mood.
