Why... why does my past torment me so?
It was a clear night, the moon shining brightly. The shape of a cat sat near the river, his dark pelt being ruffled by the wind. Sitting down, he let out a long sigh. This was Midnight, an enigmatic young cat with a haunting past. He had been staying in RiverClan for a short while now, and even though he wasn't great at catching fish, he had gotten used to being around the river.
Yet, something was on his mind. Something that only fanned the flames of his unsureness. Something that he could not escape, and it had been haunting him nearly his entire life. Why... Midnight shivered as another breeze blew by. No matter how hard I try, it keeps coming back. Again and again. My past.
Midnight had been doing a bit better ever since he had been staying in RiverClan. His dull pelt had grown more shiny, his paw was nearly healed, and he wasn't on the brink of starvation anymore.
However, memories still haunted him. Memories of his family dying, and memories of wandering on and on. I've had to fend for myself nearly my whole life... Midnight looked up at the stars and muttered, "Why did you have to die mother? Why did you have to die my siblings?" These memories had tormented this young cat for moons, and he thought about them nearly every single day.
It keeps coming back...

Lovely green eyes stood out from the Darkness. They blinked once and then twice. Every time they seemed to get even brighter until the Moon was at it's highest and out lined the cat hidden in the shadows. She had been waiting and watching this cat for sometime, thinking of what this young cat had on his mind. She looked up at the starry skies She had disobeyed starclan to come and watch this tom, hoping she could help with his questions. She knew starclan would approve as soon as they found out because they have been worrying about this tom named Midnight. His pelt was the perfect color for the name of Midnight. It was a pity that she had died so many moons ago knowing that the future that was to come would hurt the four clans with loss and death... She looked back at Midnight when he said, "Why did you have to die mother? Why did you have to die my siblings?" . Her pelt stood out and was outlined in Silver. "You must not let past happenings affect your future young one." she mewed wisely.

Midnight jumped almost immediately at the sound of another cat's voice.
"You must not let past happenings affect your future young one."
Turning around slowly, his pale yellow eyes widened as he stood up. There, right in front of his eyes, was a cat outlined in silver. Midnight blinked, and then stared wide-eyed as he said, "Who... who are you? Are you real?" Nervously, he stepped forward, unsureness clouding his eyes. "Or am I just... seeing things?"
Even though Midnight had only been in RiverClan for a short while, he had heard stories of StarClan, and how they could send down omens. Could this be... a StarClan cat? I was pretty sure that no cat followed me when I came here... His thoughts trailed off, and he took a nervous step forward. Thoughts circled around in his head, and he sat down. His pale yellow eyes betrayed both unsureness, but also a bit of curiosity now.
Another chilling breeze ruffled the young cat's dark pelt, and he shivered. "Are... are you from..." He paused, taking a deep breath. "StarClan?" [/blockquote]

She did not step out of the Shadows. It would be best to have the cat calm down before making any movement that might seem like an attack. "It is not important that you know my name now Midnight." she said and blinked her lovely green eyes. She thought about his question. "Are... are you from Starclan?" She could not answer, yet she knew this cat wanted answers and she would give him some, if she could help. "I a from Starclan." she answered. She looked up and down Midnight. "You are very brave for someone so young, yet things are troubling you? I believe." She looked into Midnights yellow eyes searching for...something.
(What is the plot that is going along with Midnight and the past thingys?)

((OOC: Well, basically, Midnight has been wandering around the clan's territories nearly his entire life. His mother and siblings were killed by a badger when he was younger, and he has been on his own ever since then. Memories of his mother and siblings dying come back into his mind all the time. He is also involved in the Helpers of StarClan plot, so I think he has been reincarnated each time he had died without knowing it, and I think he is supposed to help the clans with their problems.))
Midnight took a few slow steps forward, and began to speak. "So you are from StarClan." He paused for a moment. "Well, why would you appear to me? Aren't you supposed to go to a Medicine Cat or something?" Midnight hadn't been in RiverClan that long, but he learned a bit about StarClan and medicine cats.
His gaze traveled up to the stars, and Midnight's eyes glittered with happiness. Something about the stars fascinated him, and memories rushed through his head of night's that he had spent stargazing. I've never understood why I find the stars amazing... For a few moments, Midnight forgot about the presence of the StarClan cat.
Not drawing his attention from the stars, Midnight began to speak again. "Stars have drawn my gaze ever since I was young. I'm not sure why, though." His voice trailed off to a mere whisper, and he turned his gaze back to the StarClan cat. "Also, something has been troubling me... I get this strange feeling that I have to keep going on, to keep surviving..." Midnight let out a quiet sigh and sat down, his gaze traveling up to the stars again. [/blockquote]

She stepped out of the Shadows and padded over to Midnight. "Starclan can only appear to whom they choose Midnight." she mewed. "Sometimes there are prophesies that predict what is to come. Cats were chosen for these prophesies many moons ago. Even I don't know the chosen." she said and sat down and wrapped her tail neatly over her paws. "Medicine cats are very close to Starclan. It is a pity when one so young most die. They play a huge role in a clan. Taking care of the sick." she whispered remembering a sad time ago. "My best friend was a Medicine cat. Starclan called her away to join them. She was willing, knowing that she would be happy in Starclan." A chilling wind blew lightly across the river making ripples. They seemed to form something... "Most cats like the stars, wondering of the berdins that each caries." she followed Midnight eyes to the stars. "Each star has a story of it's own. They may be cats or even twoleg's history." she said and moved her eyes over to Midnight and looked him up and down once more. "And then there are cats that are destined for greatness. Your mother was smart to name you Midnight. Names can tell a lot about a cat without even knowing them." she said and soon she wished she was alive. "Death brings new life Midnight. You should be happy that new life it brought into this world."

Confusion was apparent on Midnight's face, yet, in his eyes, there was a spark of amazement. A StarClan cat appeared to me... But I still don't understand why. The river rippled as a chilling wind swept by, reminding Midnight that the season the clans call "Leaf-Bare," was upon them. "Well, I still don't understand why you would appear to me. What have I done that's so special?" His tone was questioning, and the words of the StarClan cat rung in his head.
"And then there are cats that are destined for greatness. Your mother was smart to name you Midnight. Names can tell a lot about a cat without even knowing them."
Midnight looked at the ground, avoiding the eyes of the StarClan cat. But I still don't understand any of this! Am I supposed to be destined for greatness? His eyes shifted from the ground to the stars, and all of the memories of his past rushed back at him.
"Please... Just tell my why you have appeared to me..." [/blockquote]

"Even I don't know what you are destined for Midnight. The stars can only tell so much." she mewed and walked over to Midnight. She rested her tail on his shoulder. It slipped through it and landed on the ground with a smack. She frowned. It was no good to any cat being dead. She stepped back from Midnight and watched his eyes.

In silence, Midnight gazed at the StarClan cat, amazement and confusion hidden behind his pale yellow eyes. None of this makes sense to me... Sitting down, he rested his tail neatly over his paws and began to speak.
"Well, there is something that I wish to ask you. Have you seen my mother or my siblings in StarClan?"
Midnight nearly forgot about nearly everything else the StarClan cat had said, as this one question stuck out in his mind. He met the gaze of the cat, and stayed quiet. All of this was unexpected for Midnight. The appearance of this StarClan cat to him, the strange feeling that he had to survive... It was all mysterious to Midnight, these enigmatic events in his lifetime. I wonder... Do StarClan cats appear to any other loners? [/blockquote]

(Can the starclan she-cat be his mother?)
She looked at him and thought about it for a while in silence. Should she tell him....?
(Should she tell him that she is his mother... or... has not seen his mother...or...has seen his mother?)

The she-cats eyes filled with sadness. She smiled and sighed. Her eyes filled with love and hope. "She loves you dearly." she mewed and waited for his responce.

"You've seen my mother?" Midnight asked excitedly, his eyes wide. The only thing in the world that he wanted right now is to have one chance to speak with her. To see her one last time... I was just a kit last time I saw my mother...
He kept his pale yellow eyes on the StarClan cat. But now that he thought about it, the cat looked oddly familiar... It's like I've seen this cat before... Midnight shrugged the thought off, his eyes shining like stars in the sky against his dark pelt, which was being ruffled again by a chilling breeze. "Where is she?" His tone was full of excitement, and louder than usual.
There was still something that seemed familiar about this StarClan cat, and Midnight couldn't remember... Who could this cat be? [/blockquote]

Blinking her green eyes fast. Could she tell him the truth? She shook the thought away and starred at Midnight. She swallowed. "I..." she started. "Am..." she took a deep breath. Like her body needed air. "Your mother" she finished and turned away and stat down.

The stars shone in the night, and Midnight's pale yellow eyes glowed with happiness, looking like stars in contrast to his dark pelt. He smiled ever so slightly as he ran up to his mother, and gently pressed himself against her. Overcome with joy, he could hardly find any words to say. "Mother... It's been so long since I've seen you." His voice trailed off. Is it really possible that I can talk to my mother again? Am I just... dreaming?
Midnight stared into his mother's green eyes, at a loss for words. He said nothing for several moments, gazing into his mother's eyes. "What is it like in StarClan?" He kept his voice to little over a whisper. His gaze traveled up to the stars, and a completely amazed look came on his face.
For a few moments, Midnight forgot about his unsureness, and he glowed with happiness. [/blockquote]

The she-cat could not repile. Instead she cried for many heart beats. She whispered comforting words. "Starclan is a wonderful place to be. They welcomed me in with welcoming paws. But I still miss being alive and hate myself for leaving and not being there for you when you needed me" she whispered and said in the smallest voice she could say with out not being heard by her son's ears. "O love you so much" and looked up and saw for the first time that he was taler then her.

A faint noise could be heard as a breeze blew, gently rustling the leaves on the trees. To Midnight, this was a peaceful noise, and he closed his eyes. "I love you to mother." His voice was barely audible, and his tone was soft. He opened his eyes and thought, All this time I guess I thought I was just alone in my conflicts... Midnight looked as if a great burden had just been lifted off of his shoulders, and he was overjoyed now that he could see his mother again.
Yet, there was still something that was bothering him.
"I don't know if you can answer this question or not, but... do you think you could explain this feeling that I get, this feeling that makes me feel like I need to survive?" Midnight closed his pale yellow eyes, and stood still for a moment. He pressed himself against his mother, and, when he opened his eyes, he realized that he was taller than her now. He didn't speak for several moments, only stood next to his mother. [/blockquote]

The she-cat was brought up short, no knowing what to say or do. "Let me think" she mewed. "Mabey it's your will to live because your brothers and sisters died and you don't really want to join them." she shrugged her shoulders and looked away from her sons face at the thought of her childern that passed away.

Midnight considered this. He stood still, and let out a sigh after a few moments. "I guess that could be it... but sometimes I feel as if it's something different that's giving me this will to live." Midnight's life had taken a turn for the better recently, but not long ago, he had been badly injured, and on the brink of starvation.
He remembered those times when he had just been wandering, without much of a hope that he would survive for much longer. He remembered when he had been wandering at the Twoleg farm, at the Thunderpath, and more recently, by the river. He had twisted his paw, and was nearly starving. Leaf-Bare was approaching, and Midnight didn't think he could have survived through the season. Yet, now, he was hopeful that he would survive. [/blockquote]
