Riddlepaw followed her mentor out of camp. This was her first hunting trip! She was nearly bursting out of her fur. This was her first time out of camp and shivered. "It's much warmer in the dens at the camp." she mewed to her mentor Riverflame. She heard a crack of a branch and looked up. A branch was holding to much snow. It fell onto her and Riverflame. "Epp!" she screamed. Riddlepaw poked her head of of the snow pile and started laughing. "Wow, that was fun!" she joked and shook her pelt when she manged to get out. "I hated the snow. I can't wait till it's new-leaf." she mewed sourly and remembered they had to fish and collect the prey Riverflame had caught. "Wont the prey be frozen?" she asked.

Riverflame trotted confidently through her Clan's territory, Riddlepaw beside her. She had caught quite a bit of prey, seeing as she had been hunting since just past sunhigh, but only two bits of fresh-kill were fish. Since she had grown up learning to catch land prey, that was what she was best at. But her mother had told her so much of RiverClan, and shown her enough tricks to fishing, so she knew that was where she belonged. She was so caught up in her thoughts that she hardly noticed an ominous snap from above until Riddlepaw's yowl alerted her. She gasped as the cold whiteness covered her, followed by the most of the branch. Though she was glad her apprentice wasn't harmed, she could have done without the branch. "I was never a fan of snow myself," Riverflame muttered, managing to climb out from the weight of the tree's fallen limb. She sneezed, shaking the rest of the snow off of her spotted brown pelt. "Right then. Now that that excitement's out of the way, we can start working on hunting. Oh, and no, it won't be frozen. It's warm enough, though I wouldn't mind if the sun were to get working a bit more. "Okay, I left a bit of prey just ahead, so we can start practicing now." she meowed, nodding towards the base of a nearby tree. "We need to start off with knowing what's around us. What can you smell? You should be able to recognize some of the scents from prey you got in the nursery."

Riddlepaw nodded and started to take in her surroundings. She remembered some smells, but not all. "Ummm..." she murmered tring to figure out the smell. It was nothing she had smelled and took a guess. "I think that weird smell is Thunderclan and the others are mouse and squirrell." she mewed and looked up at Riverflame.

Riverflame nodded, eyes shining with pride. "Very good! There's also a stale scent of a water vole, but it's not as noticeable as the others so don't worry if you didn't notice it right away. Now, that mouse smells pretty close... perfect prey for a new hunter." she purred, scenting the air once more to get an idea as to where it was. Riverflame crouched down, placing her forepaw gently on the ground. She glanced over to Riddlepaw, eyes gleaming. "Now watch me, and then we'll work on your technique," she instructed, flicking her tail for silence. She re-focused on the mouse scent, narrowing it down to right beside a young oak. With practiced footwork, she stalked up until she was nearly a tails-length away, then paused. The mouse was digging at the thawing ground in search for seeds, too busy to notice the she-cat until it was too late. With a shove off of her haunches, Riverflame pounced onto the small creature and grabbed it before it could run off. She lifted her head up to show Riddlepaw the kill, then padded over to where she had buried her prey from earlier. With a quick sweep of a forepaw, the mouse was hidden. "Think you can mimic the crouch and stalking?" she asked, sitting down beside the apprentice. "Remember to be quick, but silent. You don't want your prey to have time to escape, but you don't want them to hear or smell you either."

Riddlepaw went over what Riveflame had just done and nodded at her mentor. She opened her mouth to scents that were floating in air. Now, even stronger did she smell mouse and vole. Since Riverflame had tould her what vole smelled like, she wanted to catch one. She located the closest smell and luckly it was vole. She started to stalk toward it fast, but silent as best she could do at the moment. It was hard doing this, putting her already frezzing paws on the ground. Instead of running around to keep warm. As she moved closer, she caught sight of the swarnny vole. While this was happening, she was flicking her tail. A warnning call from above sounded. She looked back at the vole. It was now looking around. As soon as it's eyes came to her, it was getting ready to bolt. Riddlepaw took after it and ran behind a tree. The vole leaped into a small hole in the ground. She growled and walked back to Riverflame. "I didn't catch it." she mewed sourly.
