The dainty little Lilykit sat on the edge of the river, just after leaving camp. How she hated Dawnpaw for being older than her, and almost doting upon Longfeather. She let her tongue hiss, and felt her claws unsheathe in anger.
Sure, she'd make a great warrior, but she had a connection to Starclan that she wanted to fufill even more than be a run of the mill 'warrior'. Everyone wanted to be a great 'leader', but where would a leader be without their faithful medicine cat?!
Lilykit sighed, curling up next to the water.

"I'm being a sad, mopey brat like the stupid kit I am." Lilykit sighed, uncurling so she could see Sunpaw. She let out a low, long sigh, pink eyes glazed over in sadness. She brushed some sand with her left paw, looking at the print she had made in the sand, letting out another sigh.

she walked up to the kit. "hey, kits are not stupid, I was one too you know" she joked the last part. "Is this about the medicine cat apprentice thing?" She asked.

Lilykit sniffled, and nodded. Dawnpaw had only been a moon older than her, and taken Lilykit's place as the medicine cat apprentice. And now Longfeather was gone, and she couldn't consult him about her dreams that haunted her in the night. The kit was a haunted one, and Longfeather was her only refuge; no mother, no father, and a dying brother.
Lilykit let out a long sigh again, rolling over with a blink of her two pink eyes. Life was hard for the kit, she had grown up alone, passed from queen to queen. Brightstar had given her her true name, and she was grateful for that, but now two cats she had loved early were gone' Brightstar and Longfeather.
"I feel stupid, sitting here feeling sorry for myself." Lilykit huffed, looking up at the clouds in the sky.

"cheer up, even though you didn't get the spot, you're still a needed member in this clan, you're not stupid, you hear me?" Sun paw said sitting beside the kit starring at the river.

There was a murmur in the reeds, and a large, black and white cat peered through. The gray hairs on his muzzle glinted in the greenleaf sun. Shadescar saw Lilykit far outside of the nursery. "Sunpaw, this kit should be in the nursery." He growled. As he bent over to pick Lilykit up by the scruff, he noticed that the kit looked weepy.
"Dear Lilykit, what is wrong?" The senior warrior purred.

Lilykit looked up at Shadescar. "Longfeather's gone... And... I miss him!" Lilykit wailed. "And... And... A few moons ago, when Dawnpaw was a kit like me... He... He... He said I'd be his apprentice!" Lilykit wailed again, rubbing her eyes. She couldn't take it. Her brother was dying, Longfeather was gone, her parents were long dead, and Dawnpaw had... Taken Lilykit's place as Medicine Cat Apprentice, and it was tearing the kit apart slowly, unmercifully. Lilykit looked up at Shadescar, and wailed again, her pink eyes welling up with tears.

Shadescar paused, contemplating what Lilykit said, and looked at her with kind eyes. "I understand your sorrow, Lilykit. But think of it this way: if your destiny was to be a medicine cat, StarClan would have acted. Since you are not a medicine cat apprentice, StarClan must have bigger and better things planned for you. Don't give up hope, Lilykit. StarClan will find you somehow."
Shadescar's deep green eyes seemed to smile at the kit, as he purred softly, "Come on, now. We should get back to camp." He picked up the little kit by the scruff, and signaled Sunpaw to get moving with a flick of his bushy tail.
