Mistpaw had gotten out of training early, and she had decided to come to the river, she had not yet caught a fish, she had been slightly intimidated by the rushing water, but now she was exited to try and catch one. She lightly made her way to the water's edge, and felt the water with one paw, it was icy, but she didn't care at the moment.
The apprentice she-cat made her way into the water, until it touched her stomach, she shivered, it was very cold, she looked ahead, and saw several fish swarming in circles, these things couldn't be too hard to catch, could they? Mistpaw pawed her way into the water, until it was just lapping at her chin, she waded just a bit futhur, and the fish arted away.
Mistpaw growled, she had been so close, she watched then, as one by one, the fish started to swim back, she carefully reached out with one paw, then leaned closer, then snatched the fish out of the water. Suddenly, hew paws slipped out from under her, her whole body slipped into the freezing water, the river pulled her away from the camp, Mistpaw struggled, and fought the gushing water, but it was too rough, then, she was slammed into a rock jutting out from the river, she took advantage of this chance, and clawed her way on top of the rock, once carefully perched, she lunged, and landed on the riverbank.
Mistpaw collapased, panting, she looked back at the streaming water, then to the fish that was stuck in her claws, she flung the fist away, then took a deep breath, her side where she had slammed into the rock felt bruised, and she was exhausted now. Sighing, she pushed herself up, scooped the fish up in her mouth, and climbed futhur up the riverbank, trying to decide weather she should eat her catch, or take it to the camp.

Dawnpaw had just finished gathering the herbs that Creamtail had said for her to gather, when she heard a cry from father down stream. Dawnpaw put the herbs down and raised to the sound of the cry. When she got their, Mistpaw was crawling out of the river soaked. Mistpaw started to walk up the shore in her direction.
"Well I see you've been out for an early swim..." she joked as Mistpaw padded up to her.

Mistpaw saw Dawnpaw approaching her, "That's not funny, I almost just drowned out there! I didn't think the river was that rough...geez. At least I got my first fish! Have you caught one yet?" Mistpaw held her head high, while waiting for Dawnpaw to approach.

"I am a Medicine cat apprentice, Creamtail has not let me out much after the fight with Cinder and death of Copperclaw." she answered with a sigh. It hurt her to talk about a cat that had killed her friend. "I have tired, but I'm to busy with Medicine cat busines..." she said to Mistpaw. "Will you teach me how?"

Mistpaw jumped at Dawnpaw's request, "Um, sure, but, I'm still an apprentice, but I can teach you what I know. But we just can't let my mentor find out, I could get in trouble." She swished her tail in exitement.

Dawnpaw was exited more then ever. She could not wait to fish and bring her pray back to Riverclan. "Where do we start, and don't let Creamtail know about this, she would get mad that I wasn't getting herbs." she told Mistpaw.

Mistpaw understood the cats caution, "Okay, first you have to know how to stalk the prey, fish are different. But one thing alike in all prey, is that you have to know how they move, and prepared to go after them, in any situation, weather they attack, or flee. For fish, you must be quiet, and keep your movements slight."
Mistpaw looked at her catch laying on the rocks still, she decided to leave it there until later. She looked back at Dawnpaw, "Come with me, but be very careful, the rocks are slippery, that's how I fell, and almost got washed away."

Dawnpaw followed the young apprentice over to the river side and sat beside her. Listening to every word Mistpaw told her. She watched the apprentice as she showed her how to do it. Dawnpaw looked into the water and stared at a silver body swam past.
"Will you show me how..?" she asked.

Mistpaw looked into the water, and saw a group of fish swimming around. She carefully, and slowly made her way out to the group, then looked back at Dawnpaw, and modded for her to come over.

Dawnpaw followed Mistpaw into the water, as soon as she got in, it was refreshingly cool. As soon as she waded over to where Mistpaw waited, she saw fish swimming beneath her paws. She looked at Mistpaw for her next direction.

Mistpaw carefully lifted her paw out of the water, careful not to disturb the fish, she leaned forward just a little bit, and started to reach with her paw, until it was just beneath the water, then she waited for a fish to swim by.....
Mistpaw saw a silver sleek fish swim by, just an inch or two from her hovering paw, it was a large fish too, she waited, then lashed out with her paw, and caught the fish on her claws, she held it up, and waved it at Dawnpaw, "Your turn."

Dawnpaw was careful not to let her shadow fall on the water. She dipped her paw in the water and waited for a silver body to flash by. As soon as she saw a silver body heading down stream, she moved her paw to where the fish was headed. The fish swam right into her paw, Dawnpaw throw the fish onto the riverbank and killed it with her thorn sharp claws.
"Hows that?" she asked Mistpaw.

Mistpaw laughed, "You got most of it, but, you missed the most important factor. You have got to be careful in the river, I can't stress that to you enought. My master always tells me that. Once you have to fish, you have to watch your step." Mistpaw looked sreiously at Dawnpaw.

Mistpaw sighed, "Yes, it does count as something. Very much. But, if you want to be a warrior, there is still a lot for you to learn, my master even says that he doesn't know everything there is to being a warrior."
Mistpaw looked at the fish she had caught earlier, then at the one she had in her claws, "Let's go take these to camp, but, when everyone see's you with a catch, what are you going to do?"

"I'll tell Creamtail I needed space, and I am training as a Medicine cat, not a warrior." she said to the apprentice. She started to walk up river.

Mistpaw trotted after her, and scooped up her other fish from earlier in her mouth, then dragged the other fish. Dawnpaw was going to get herself into a mess, Mistpaw could already tell. She knew how bad she wanted to be a medicene cat, so Mistpaw decided she would just do the explaining.

Mistpaw jumped as the cat approached, "Oh, sorry. Thanks. Dawnpaw just wanted to learn how to catch some fish. But you can't tell anyone, she's a medicene cat apprentice, and she shouldn't try to hunt, I just wanted to quickly show her how." Mistpaw watched Emberpaw, and waited to see the reaction on his face, because then she could be able to tell if she was going to tell someone or not.
