"I want to try! This sounds like a fun game Lightfoot!" Gingerkit mewed excitedly.
She looked down on the water, seeing little fish swim by. Trying her best, Gingerkit lunged at the tiny fish with her paw, missing it barely.
"Aw, I'm no good at this." She mewed sadly.

Stonekit attempted to catch one and instead fell on it. He came above the water with the fish in his jaws, "I caught it!" He said happily.

Lightfoot nodded. "Good job, Stonekit. That's two points for Stonekit, none for Gingerkit, and I think two points for Mistpaw." This was more than a game. This was about honing and developing their hunting skills, too.

Shaking her head, Gingerkit stopped sulking. She coudn't be upset just because she failed once. Trying once more, Gingerkit's paw shot out from nowhere on a little fish.
"I caught one!" Gingerkit mewed happily to Lightfoot.

Lightfoot nodded. "Good job! Two points for Gingerkit." She turned. Jadeflower had gotten a big fish, and had placed it on the bank. "Hey Jadeflower, can you keep tally?"

"Whoa! How many points does Jadeflower get?" Gingerkit mewed as she saw the huge fish.
She didn't know if she could win this game. To her, it seemed unfair that Mistpaw was playing. She wanted Mistpaw to play, but she was an apprentice and a lot older than Gingerkit.
Oh well. Gingerkit thought.

Lightfoot laughed. "Lucky for you three, Jadeflower's not playing." The calico went underwater, and then surfaced. Her calico coat shone with water. Her whiskers were beaded with little drops of it.

Mistpaw watched the kits happily, and easily catching the prey, she looked around, then bowed her head, "Yeah, I guess, it's just....rotten luck." Mistpaw climbed out of the water, and went and sat on the shore, watched the kits, so easily, catching fish and frogs. Mistpaw wasn't going to play, since her master would punish her for getting beat by a kit.

Jadeflower walked up to Mistpaw. The apprentice looked like she was about to cry. "What's wrong?"

Mistpaw looked at the ground, "Nothing, it's not really, important. But, I just seem to have trouble hunting in the river, and that's, not normal, for a Riverclan cat. And I'm just, afraid that the others are going to,..to make fun of me." Mistpaw glanced at the kits, seeming to just instantly know how to catch fish, without a problem. When she would always end up on her face, or with a mouthfull of water, or being rushed down the river. And when she did catch a fish, it was rare, and not very large. Mistpaw sighed, "I'm okay, though. I think...I think I'll just, go back to the camp, and keep training with Rivertail. Thanks Jadeflower." Mistpaw smiled at her.

Jadeflower wished she could do more for Mistpaw than say nice things. Jadeflower had been a kittypet, but had become one of the most revered cats in RiverClan. As an apprentice, as Jadepaw, she had had quite a lot of trouble swimming, let alone catching fish. "I was in your paws at one point." she meowed.

Mistpaw sighed, "But, the others didn't make fun of you...well, they haven't made fun of me, yet. But, I'm only an apprentice, so I'll learn, I'm working on it with Rivertail, it's no big deal. Thanks." Mistpaw nodded at Jadeflower, and sat back down, "I'll be fine. But I think I'm just going to sit out and watch for a while."

The chocolate pointed Siamese shook her head, grinning. "Mistpaw, I'm of kittypet descent. That's at least ten points on the scale of 'what to make fun of' in a Clan cat, along the fact that as an apprentice, I couldn't even really swim, let alone catch fish." There was also the fact that she was one of the very few Siamese cats in the Clans. Sometimes Jadeflower wished she could go visit Jadepaw-her back in her apprentice days- back in time and tell her what she did right and what she did wrong.

Mistpaw shuffled a paw along the ground, "I guess I don't have it as bad as others. Thanks Jadeflower." Mistpaw glanced at the river, thoughtfully, "Maybe, you could help me out sometime, and we can work on fishing, and swimming together?" Mistpaw slowly glanced up at Jadeflower, kneading the dirt with her paw.

Jadeflower smiled. "Of course! Rivertail won't mind!" Jadeflower felt empathy for Mistpaw. Rivertail wasn't a very good mentor, at least in her opinion.
When she had been mentored, her mentor was obnoxious and rude to her. She wanted to be nice to Mistpaw and help her out, since she saw a little of Jadepaw in her.

Mistpaw bounced up, beaming, "Really!? You'll help me! Thanks Jadeflower!" She nestled her head quickly into the warriors chest as a sigh of thanks, then jumped in exitement, "So when do we start!" Mistpaw mewed happily.

emberpaw padded up to jadelflower. "hello, Jadeflower!" she said brightly.

Jadeflower grinned at the two apprentices. "Well! I'm quite popular, aren't I? Mistpaw, we'll start tomorrow. Rivertail wouldn't dare mess with me, so it's safe to assume that he'd be too scared to say no. And Emberpaw, hey there! What's up?" The last time the Siamese had seen Emberpaw was when Longfeather was having one of his weird moments and sort of creeped both of them out.

"nothing much." she answered. "jadeflower...thanks." the ginger and black apprentice knew that Jadeflower knew she was talking about the day longfeather went all weird.

The Siamese shrugged. "Don't mention it. Longfeather was messed up. Now he's gone. I can't help but think that it had to do with us." Jadeflower had been plagued with images of the Abyssinian looking around, muttering stuff like "They're onto me!" or "I must take flight!" Then morphing into a hawk and flying off. But that was the young cat's imagination doing it's work.
