Smokefang entered the camp and paused, catching his breath. Two tiny kits dangled from his jaws, and he stayed as still as possible as not to jostle them. He set both of them down and licked each of their heads before turning to the cats who were by now staring at him in disbelief. What was he supposed to say? How do you tell your Clan that you found two kits, and only caught one squirrel, which you left behind? These kits certainly weren't squirrels! "Um..." he muttered, trying to think of words. "Will someone please fetch me Silverstar?" He bent down and licked the kits again, trying to calm their anxious mewling. They needed milk, and fast. He didn't know how long they had been there, alone.

Roseheart padded up to him and set the prey down, "what?Extra fur this time?"she joked. She sniffed the kits, "They're from a different clan but i can't scent out which one."

Tallkit squeaked, he was so hungry that he didn't feel that good.

Summerpaw bounded out to the fresh-kill pile. Smokefang had gotten food, hadn't he? She stopped dead in her tracks. From here, they were really really weird looking squirrels. Then one squeaked. They were kits! How could a tom have kits??? Was he actually a girl??? The green-eyed tabby jumped down and sniffed the kits. "They reek!" she meowed.

Smokefang sat and sighed, then nosed one of the kits in another attempt to calm them. "Summerpaw, will you please get Silverstar for me? And quickly;" he meowed to the apprentice, his tone slightly desperate. The two kits needed milk, but he was unwilling to give them over to a queen; they couldn't stay, unless Silverstar allowed them. He severely hoped the leader would let them stay; they were so tiny and vulnerable, and the tom couldn't stand the thought of leaving them without a proper life. Why would their mother leave them?

Dustfoot was walking around camp, when he caught wind of an unfamiliar scent. He couldn't pinpoint exactly which scent it was, so he followed his nose, which lead him to Smokefang. "Somkefang what's going on, I smell something-" Dustfoot cut himself off from his scentence when he noticed two tiny kits. He said to Smokefang, "Whose kits are these? I can tell they are not from Thunderclan. Where did you find them?" He was taken back. They looked very hungry, and there was no telling how long they could have been alone. How could a cat abandon two helpless kits? Dustfoot thought. He felt a great amount of pity for the two kits. Who could have been their mother....... They don't smell of Thunderclan. He thought, troubling himself with his own question.

"Dustfoot, I'll explain."Roseheart said. "I was with Leopardpaw and we were coming back from training when I spotted Smokefang, He has found those two kits abandonned. We brought them back here for they need help."She explained. "These two are not from our clan yes, but we can scent out a faint scent from a different clan but it's too faint to tell"

"Hmm.... I see." Dustfoot mewed softly. Not every day that happens. Two abandoned kits...... He thought. Dustfoot sniffed the two kits very carefully. "I can detect that they were born into a clan. The question remains what clan." Dustfoot pondered this for a few moments. "Well no matter the clan, we are supposed to help all kits. I can see no reason that Silverstar would deny taking in these kits, however we must still speak with her before we make a decision." He said. Dustfoot pondered what could have been the reason for their abandonment. They seem healthy enough...... There must have been a reason for them being abandoned. He remembered that he was still standing right by everyone. Heh. It's really like me to get lost in thought. He thought, laughing at himself a little.

Smokefang curled his tail around the kits, worried about them. They were adorable, even if they weren't from his Clan. His eyes softened as their mews continued. The tom dipped his head and nosed the smaller one, an inaudible purr building in his throat. "Dustfoot, do you think Silverstar will allow them? I know, they're kits, so they need somewhere to stay, but what if none of the queens will take them in? Then, Silverstar won't have a choice except to take them elsewhere." he meowed, and though he wouldn't admit it, since they weren't his kits, he was beginning to grow fond of the two. They were helpless, and the warrior's instinct to care for young had just about taken over his sense of thought. He no longer cared where they were from, nor why their mother had left them. They could be kits of those rouges that ShadowClan had told them about for all Smokefang knew, and yet he couldn't think about that. All he knew was that these kittens were abandoned, had nowhere to go, and it was up to him- well, Silverstar -to give them a place to grow.

"Yes, I think that Silverstar will take them in. I'm sure one of the queens will voulenteer to take care of them. They seem healthy and without defects. Even if they had birth defects, I'm sure that one of the queens would help them out." Dustfoot said. "They are pretty adorable, after all." He said with a smile. I probably shouldn't be forming attatchments to these kits yet. After all, what if the mother comes back, whoever she is. It's always possible. He thought.

Snowheart was trotting toward the fresh kill pile, desperate to find something to eat, to fill her stomach, and feed to tiny kits inside of her. Nothing was in the fresh kill pile, besides, something mewing, she looked at Dustfoot, "What are these kits doing here?" She nudges one, they didn't smell of Thunderclan, at all.
The she-cat smiled, "Well, if they need a mother, I'll have kits of my own soon, so I would have no problem with taking care of them." Snowheart tenderly licked one of the kits.

The brown tabby trotted off, lime-green eyes darting around for their leader. Where was she? Oh, right. She hopped up and walked toward the leader's den. "Uhh, Silverstar?"

Snowheart looked tenderly as the small mewing kits, she softly licked the top of their heads. And looked up at Smokefang, "Where did you find these kits?" She softly swished her tail back and forth, watching the kits wriggle around eachother, amused.

Smokefang nosed the kits gently before he replied to the queen. "Over by the Tallpines," he mewed. "They were alone in tall grass. I couldn't tell what Clan they were from, but the mother had to have had a reason for abandoning them." He sighed and looked at the miserably hungry kits. He brought them a bit closer to him, then licked their heads in turn. Where is Silverstar? he thought, glancing up anxiously. They can't go this long without milk, surely they can't...

Snowheart looked softly at the kits again, "Well, they look kind of hungry, and who knows how long they were out in the forest, alone. I could nurse them, until Silverstar returns, surely she wouldn't be too mad. Their just poor helpless kits, all alone."
Snowheart nudged one of them with her nose, they were still warm, but she knew that they couldn't go long without milk, especially at this age. She curled her tail around one of them, and pulled it closer to her, purring softly.

Scorchpelt walked out of the warrior's den. What on- Smokefang...with kits...that reeked...of enemy Clan. The warrior code stated to be compassionate. But what if Smokefang HADN'T "found" those kits, as he claimed. What if he had stolen them and was pulling everyone's leg?
The big red tom knew that was mousedung, but he was the kind who overthought everything.

Brokensoul padded over. She saw the look on Summerpaw's face, and cuffed her around the ear. "I know what it's like to abandon kits. A loyal warrior like Smokefang would not steal kits. We are not falling back into the time of Brokenstar." She hissed. "I had to leave my kits in Shadowclan, then abandon my daughter to Windclan, and my son left for Riverclan. I have missed them ever so much. The mother of these kits would have had a reason to abandon them." She flicked her tail to the big black one. "Do you remember, the gathering when the Dead Plains ambushed us. This kit," Brokensoul said. "Looks like Envy. Any sane clanner girl would not let herself produce such an evil cats kits. They look like a Tallkit and Cloudkit." Brokensoul pointed to the big black kit when she said Tallkit, and the little grey one when she said Cloudkit. They looked rather like that Brightheart, but Brokensoul would keep quiet. Brightheart must have had a reason to abandon them.
