Goldclaw padded towards the old badger sett, scenting the air along the way. He needed to distract himself, to give himself a chance to think clearly without wondering what the motives were behind Nightsky's sudden interest in him. The faintest trace of rabbit came from several fox-lengths away, too faint to be worth checking. But from within the sett came quiet scurrying, like tiny paws scratching in search of food. The tom instinctively dove in, seeing the outline of the mouse's tiny body in the darkness. The sunlight shone in, and the tom watched as it darted out, away from him. He shoved off the side of the sett, sending dust floating up behind him as he crashed down on the mouse, snapping it's neck on contact. "Well, that worked out," he chuckled, and looked around for a place to bury the prey.

"Nice catch!" Nightsky mewed happily trotting toward Goldclaw.
She looked around, opening her mouth to scent prey. She didn't really want to hunt, she just needed to be alone with Goldclaw. He needed to fall in love with her, and before she got bigger.
"Um, so Goldclaw, are you weirded out that I've suddenly taken an interest in you?" Nightsky mewed softly so that only Goldclaw was able to hear.

Goldclaw found a place- a nook between some roots of a bush -and dug for a moment before placing the mouse in the newly dug hole and covering it. He had just glanced up when he heard Nightsky speak again. "Well..." he stuttered, taken aback with how upfront she was. "I suppose, just a bit." He kneaded the ground with his forepaws, sitting. Clearly she hadn't asked him to come out here to hunt. But what did she want? The tom sat, curling his tail around his paws neatly.

"Well...um, why do you think I've been so interested in you...?" Nightsky asked shyly.
Even though she wasn't truly in love with him, it was still hard to confess. She needed to know what he thought before she could figure out what she was going to say to him. She sat down close to him, trying to calm her mind as thoughts raced through it.

Goldclaw watched as the she-cat sat beside him, then glanced down nervously. Possible reasons flitted through his mind like frightened butterflies, but none of them seemed to fit. "Honestly," he admitted, "I don't know. But as long as you're not plotting to kill me, I'm fine with whatever the reason is," he laughed, but still didn't look up. The tom had no possible answer.

"Well, I guess I could say that I've suddenly started to like you....really like you...." Nightsky mewed softly.
She looked down at her paws, not daring to meet the eyes of the tom. She may have not said she loved him, but it was still hard to choke out. Goldclaw's response was going to be the most important, everything depended on what he was going to say. [/size]

Goldclaw's ears twitched as the she-cat replied. She couldn't like him... it was impossible. "Really, what's the reason?" he asked, glancing up. His eyes showed his embarrassment. He hadn't actually meant to say that out loud... "I mean, why? You've ignored my presence until now. How can you like me?" He ducked his head to hide his embarrassment, and drew a paw over his ear.

"I-I don't really know..." Nightsky stammered, the hardest part was coming, "I mean, I guess I really didn't notice you until now."
Nightsky licked her chest in embarrassment, trying to hide her face. She couldn't look at Goldclaw, it was just too hard to face him.

"Well..." Goldclaw muttered. "This is hard to believe..." The tom sighed and looked up, staring at the sky for no apparent reason. He took a deep breath and sighed, trying to think of a reason why Nightsky would be making this up. He couldn't think of any; she just wasn't that kind of cat. And she was pretty... but it was just so unexpected! "If... if you're serious, then I'll believe you..." he muttered, blinking and then glancing down to look at her again. "But..." But what? What was wrong with him? He was questioning something that he had no proof that it wasn't true.

"S-so, you know how I feel about you...um, how do you feel about me?" Nightsky stammered.
She laid down, knowing they might be talking for a while. This hunting trip seemed to be going quite well for Nightsky. If Goldclaw liked her too, she could make every cat in camp think he was the father of her soon-to-be kits. Only problem was if they looked like their real father, with gray fur.
