Smokefang padded slowly towards the Snakerocks, for no real reason. He just wanted to get out of camp, maybe hunt a bit. But he had already caught three mice and a robin, for as long as he had been hunting. It was time to take a break. The tom jumped onto a rock and looked around, alert for any signs of adders. His ears swiveled at every sound, and his eyes darted to follow. After hearing and seeing nothing, he relaxed and jumped down, onto another rock and to another slightly larger. He was carefree at this moment, and his eyes shone happily. Surely, nothing could go wrong in such a moment.

Cloudwhisker hesitantly padded toward snake rocks. She had no real intention of going there though, it's not like she got up in the morning and told herself 'Cloudwhisker, you're going to go to snake rocks today.'
The sun was beating down on her pelt, which was sowered with small, brown burrs.
Something drew her there, it told her paws where to go. Something seemingly uncontrollable.
The white she-cat approached the deadly area. The first thing she saw was Smokefang! Jumping from one rock to another.
"Smokefang! Are you insane?" she yowled to the gray tom.

Smokefang's ears swiveled in the direction of a faint sound, like something coming towards him. He turned and saw Cloudwhisker; he hadn't recognized her scent, because the slight wind was blowing in the wrong direction. "Oh, hello Cloudwhisker." he meowed calmly. "I was just-" he broke off as he took a step forward, causing him to fall clumsily off the rock and onto the ground. "Foxdung!" he hissed, too quiet for anyone else to hear, cat or adder alike. Standing up, his eyes narrowed and he moved to sit a few tail-lengths away from the she-cat before ducking his head to groom himself. Mouse-brain! he thought angrily. You could have alerted an adder! And then what would you have done? You'd have gotten yourself and Cloudwhisker into a huge amount of trouble, that's what. You've been a warrior for a while now, don't you have more balance than a newborn kit?

"Are you alright?" Cloudwhisker mewed as she carefully made her way over to where Smokefang sat.
The white she-cat stood next to him, hoping he hadn't been hurt because of her. Oh, she would never let herself live that down.

Smokefang glanced up and nodded. "I'm fine, don't worry," he meowed, eyes shining good-naturedly. He pricked his ears, alert for adders, and then relaxed. He'd been in this area enough to know that any slips could cost his life, and in this case, Cloudwhisker's too. "I'm fine," he repeated, and stopped as he heard the faintest sound of something moving towards them. He turned, and flicked his tail for Cloudwhisker to stay quiet for a moment. He stood and padded around the rock he had just been jumping on, and listened for a moment more. Sure that nothing had been around, he padded back. Though he seemed relaxed, his eyes darted towards every sound again, waiting for an adder to jump out and attack.

Cloudwhisker was on edge with all senses as Smokefang went to look to see if an adder was about to come out.
Her heart pounded as he placed his ear on the rock. It might of even skipped a few beats, too.
Relief flooded over her as Smokefang came back over to her. She let out a sigh of relief. The white warrior sat down, getting her fur even dirtier.
"That's good." she mewed.
After a few heartbeats, she had a tug of curiosity. "I have to ask; What exactly were you doing here?" she mewed.
It seemed so... ..odd to her that Smokefang was jumping from rock to rock in the snake rocks. To Cloudwhisker it was rather mouse brained of him, but she wasn't about to say so now.

Smokefang nodded. He noticed how relieved the she-cat looked, probably because she had heard the sound too, but he didn't say anything. "Well, I was hunting for a while," he explained, nodding in the direction of where he had buried his prey. "And then I decided to explore the territory a bit, and I came here. I was going to head back to camp in a while, but-" His words broke off in a hiss as a rather large adder emerged a few fox-lengths away from them. The tom sprang nimbly to his feet, back arched and fangs showing. The snake made it's way towards them quickly for a snake, probably used to it's surroundings. "Get up on the rocks," he hissed, backing towards them himself. "They won't do much good, but it'll slow it down." The adder darted towards Smokefang, fangs glistening in the sun, and the tom yowled in surprised, jumping to the side just in time. He'd never been bitten by an adder, and now didn't seem like such a good time to expirement. However, he knew that if you were bitten, it was unlikely you would see another one; there were no adders in StarClan.
(( Bum bum bummmmm... Sorry, felt like making a dramatic entrance. XD ))

Cloudwhisker darted for the rock, skirting around the opposite way. She bunched up all of her muscles and leaped into the rocks. For a heartbeat, it seemed like she was scrambling up them.
The white she-cat bound from rock to rock, trying to get as far away as possible from the deadly adder.
In the back of her mind, she just hoped that Smokefang would be alright.

Smokefang spat at the adder, swiping claws down as a warning as he jumped easily onto a rock. The snake continued towards them, and managed onto a low rock. Adders could climb, but not as fast as staying on the ground. The tom jumped after Cloudwhisker, alert for any sudden movements around him, and paused. "You alright?" he called from a few rocks back, turning to see exactly where the adder was. It had mades it's way onto a few of the rocks, and seemed to be struggling to get closer. "Great StarClan," he muttered under his breath. If he hadn't of come here, there could have been two other possibilities. He would have kept hunting, and run into Cloudwhisker. Or, he could have kept hunting and Cloudwhisker could have come here, only to be attacked by the adder alone. Smokefang preferred the first; if the she-cat were to be killed, only several fox-lengths away from him with a few trees in the way, he wouldn't be able to live with himself.

"Better than ever." Cloudwhisker called back, now taking her blue eyes from the rocks.
The she-cat glanced back to see where the adder was. It had changed course, heading straight for her!
She was warm, especially because the sun was shining hard and her long fur didn't help anyone. Cloudwhisker's mind raced, what to do now?
The she-cat's paws were thudding from rock to rock, though she feared waking more adders up. The white warrior changed course, hoping to throw it off at least a bit.

Smokefang hissed in frustration as the adder changed course, away from him. It was going towards Cloudwhisker. "Get out of here, you filthy piece of foxdung!" he yowled to the snake, bounding after the she-cat. With an extra burst of speed, he caught up with her, only to slip. His forepaw fell off the rock, and he yowled in surprise, scrambling to get back up. The adder had returned to the ground, and was waiting sentry in case either of the two cats fell. It would be a fall to their death, that was for sure. But it's eyes were still locked on Cloudwhisker, paying little attention to the tom. In his perspective, there were two possible solutions: one, he could leap down and catch it by surprise, and try to kill it. Or at least give it wounds deep enough to scare it away. Or, two, he could convince the she-cat to jump with him, hopefully over the snake, and run back to camp. But then they could be leading it to the camp, if it was so bold as to leave it's own territory. Or, they could both be ripped to shreds from the adder's fangs because they didn't jump far enough. He couldn't decide which was worse. "Cloudwhisker, what should we do?" he asked, turning to stare at the she-cat. His eyes showed his desperate need to get out of here, but also the fierce determination not to let either of them die at the hand of an adder.

Cloudwhisker halted. The white warrior looked back at Smokefang.
"The only thing I can think of is to get rid of the adder. If we both attack, then it could be easier to kill or drive away." she meowed
The white she-cat bounded over to Smokefang. "Are you okay?" she mewed, her voice heavy with concern. This was all her fault! If she hadn't of distracted him then she wouldn't of woke the adder and both of the cats wouldn't be in danger.

Smokefang nodded. "I'm fine," he assured her. "Don't worry about me. I won't let anything happen to either of us." The tom glanced down to the large snake, and hissed, his tail lashing. "If we were to fight together, it would confuse it. I'll leap down and distract it, then you come down when I yowl, okay? Then we'll fight together, hopefully confusing it enough to manage a few blows enough to kill it. We'll get rid of it, but watch out for the fangs." he promised, and gave her the most hopeful look he could manage. He wouldn't let himself die, but he would protect Cloudwhisker with his life if nessicary. If he died, and went to StarClan, at least he could see his siblings again.

Cloudwhisker gave a curt nod.
"Sounds like a plan." she meowed. The she-cat turned to the adder. It was just waiting. Waiting to take a cat's life.
Not today, she told herself. No one was joining StarClan today, not if she had anything to do with it.

Smokefang nodded and leaped down, landing neatly behind the snake. He yowled and swiped claws down it's back to get it's attention, and it turned angrily. It opened it's mouth, fangs glittering threateningly, as it emmitted a long, loud hiss before darting to attack. The tom jumped, landing on it's neck and dug claws into it's skin before jumping neatly away. Fangs came close to grazing his foreleg as the snake swiveled it's head in the direction Smokefang didn't expect. "Now!" he yowled, swiping claws at it's face. They struck skin, just below one if it's eyes on a sideswipe. If they made it out of this alive, Smokefang would only go near this place when the adders were hibernating.

Cloudwhisker bunched up her muscle, it was torcher watching Smokefang fight off the adder.
"Now"
As soon as the yowl left his lips, she leaped down.
Cloudwhisker let out a hiss as she ran her claws down it's spin. The she-cat jumped out of the way as it turned to her.
The white warrior made sure she was on the opposite of Smokefang.
The adder came toward her, it let out a loud hiss before striking. The adder missed the dodging Cloudwhisker by only a mouse tail. The she-cat swiped at the adder's head with all the force she could muster up. It tore it's thick skin, but nothing else.
The she-cat backed away a little, hoping that the adder would soon be dead and they could both go on with their lives.

Smokefang darted in to bite down into the adder's neck, and it thrashed for a moment before backing away. The tom leaped off, and swiped claws across the side of the snake's head before backing up. "I think it's retreating," he meowed. "I can't be sure though; adders don't usually back down easily." Smokefang bounded up, swiping more claws at it, helping it retreat. Eventually, it turned and slithered into the undergrowth where it had come from. "Stay alert, just in case," he meowed, coming to stand beside Cloudwhisker. His eyes never left the place where it retreated. "You never know with adders."
(( You can make it come back, make it stay away, whichever. I don't like total control over it, lol. It's confusing, because I don't know when to make it go away. x3 ))

Cloudwhisker let out a deep breath.
"Okay." she mewed. It seemed like both of them had come so close to losing their lives today. Leaders were lucky, they could be killed once, and relive eight more times.
The white warrior came closer to Smokefang, though in the back of her mind something told her that something else was going to go wrong. She pushed the thought away.
"You know that you never told be why you were here." she mewed. The she-cat stared at the tom with her 'lost-in-thought- blue eyes.

Smokefang continued to stare at the place where the snake left for a moment more, then turned to face Cloudwhisker. He sat down and drew a paw over his ear, then noticed that his pad was torn. The adreneline must have hidden the stinging, annoying pain. "I must've torn it when I fell..." he muttered, cleaning the cut. Once the blood had stopped flowing, he set it back down and answered the she-cat's questioning. "I was hunting, and decided I would take a short break. Of course, as we both know, it wasn't that short, and it wasn't much of a break. But oh well. Point is, I'm glad neither of us were eaten."

"You should get Dappleclaw to look at that, you don't want it getting infected." Cloudwhisker mewed looking at his paw.
"Well, life wouldn't be as sweet if the both of us were eaten." she mewed. Then it hit her as sweet? Of course she meant that it wouldn't be as fun if they were both in StarClan, didn't it?
The white she-cat shook the thought away, but still in the back of her mind it nagged at her. As sweet.
